FISHING REPORT
Mon 5/23
Chris J. took the pool with an 8 1/4 pound fluke today. Nice action on the south side of town. Tues 5/24 Good fishing in the morning before the wind and rain arrived. Limited out on fluke on the South side of town. Gary Gatens had the pool at 7 pounds. Wed 5/25 & Thurs 5/26 Did not sail due to weather conditions. Fri 5/27 Tough bite after the storm with Harold Ramsey taking pool honors with a 3 pound fluke. Har9old also stirred some excitement by bringing a 15 pound beauty of a monkfish over the rails. Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Sat 5/28 Ok bite in the morning with Charles Granick winning the pool with an 8 pound fluke. The afternoon saw more action than the morning and some better quality fish hitting the deck. An 8 pounder took the pool again this time by Mr Cho. Sun 5/29 8 pound fluke seem to be the winning ticket with Mr. Park winning the poool today. Good fluke bite in the morning but a bit slower in the afternoon. Diamond jigging provided planty of action with plenty of blue fish around and a lot of short bass returned. Mon 5/30 Ok fluke action with Hiro bringing a 6 pounder over the rails. Nice blues action on diamond jigs asa well as some keeper bass. Sea Otter IV Charters Fri 5/27 Ken Woods chartered the boat this morning as a "surprise" birthday gift for his Dad. In spite of the tougher fishing coming off the storm the birthday boynailed some keeper fluke and boated some bass by diamond jigging. The afternoon trip was an "exploratory" trip for some Ross School students by their teacher Paul Flagg. Out for a mixed bag of some of what our ocean containsthe group had bass, blues and fluke come over the rails. Sat 5/28 Mike Nagel was back with his crew for their annual mixed bag trip. Lots of fun and good action. Great mix of blues, bass and fluke. Mike Nagel had their pool fluke at 7 1/2 pounds as well as diamond jigged 3 keeper bass. Mon 5/20 The Vigil brothers were out with some buddies for some mixed bag action. The guys limited out on striped bass. Nice mix of blues and some fluke over the rails. Tony Vigil managed 6 keeper stripers. Monday 5/16 Good morning bite again with, Moon, Dan, Peter, Jamie, Pop and Jay heading hom ewith their limit. Ralph was high hook with 9 keeprs. Fished the south side and Moon had the pool with a 6 pounder. Low point of the day was losing an estimated 12 pound doormat at the surface! Nice to see some niced sized flatties!! Tuesday 5/17 Good day again! High hook was Kevin Choi with 16 keepers! Dave Ferraro of Holbrook wan the pool with an 8 pounder. Good action! Wednesday 5/18 The good bite continues from the South Side! The boat went home withits limit today. Fred Nevine won the pool with a 7.5 pounder edging out Bobby Vigil who was high hook with 12 fish up to 7.4 pounds. Thursday 5/19 Sea Otter V returned withits limit today after fishing the South side. Lots of action throughout the day, with plenty of shorts im the mix. Richie Cannon won the pool with a 7 pound fluke. Customers were also taking in the sights today as 3 basking sharks posed for some photos. Friday 5/20 Slow drift today bringing lots of shorts over the rails. Joe was high hook with 15 keepers. The pool winning doormat was swung over the rails by John Kraus - a whopping 10 pounds. Saturday 5/21 Got the very windy afternoon in. Slow action with a 5 pound pool. Sunday 5/22 Decent hit off of town today. Joe Middleton won the pool with an 8 1/2 pound fluke. Good quantity and quality with over half a dozen other fish weighing over 7 pounds.
Sea Otter IV C harters: Fri5/20 Anheuser-Busch chartered the boat today along with the guys from Smith & Wolensky. The beer guys edged out the steak men for top honors of the day. Dennis Beresheim took the pool at 7 pounds and had 2 others over 5 pounds. Brian Hart diamond jigged our 1st bass of the season, albeit a short one. Valmie his first time fishing brought 15 fish over the rails. Sat 5/21 Mike Connolly and his crew braved the windy conditions for a full day fluke trip. Mike nailed 9 keepers. Magoo thought he jad the pool in the bag with his 7 pound flattie but Paul took it away with his 7 1/4 pounder. Sunday 5/22 Andy Mendolia was back chartering the boat with his crew today. Donnie "Kitchen Sink" nabbed his limit in the first 2 drifts. It was a good day with good action. Kenny, from College Point Yacht Club won the pool with a 6 1/4 pound flattie.
wed 5/11 Seems like things are really beginning to happen , Fluke-wise on the south side. Capt Joel landed 7 keepers (returning overage). Choi nailed his limit. Pool winner Dan O'Keefe had an 8 1/2 pound flattie. Thurs 5/12 Good day on the South Side boat had it limit on fluke. Ace Moon had 9 keepers and the pool at 5 1/2 pounds. Marvin landed 10 keepers. Captain Joel was high hook with 15 and brought a 9 1/4 pounder over the rails. All fish over the anglers limit were returned safely to the water. Fri 5/13 Another good day down the South side of town. Boat hadits linmit with two anglers tying for high hook. Diete, who also managed a nice 5 pounder and Tom Petkanas. Tom won the pool easily with the first doormat of the season weighing 10.25 pounds! Sat 5/14 The AM trip down the South side had our pool winner, Kam, nab a 4 pounder. The afternoon trip headed back to the same and nailed Yogie Stone a pool fish weighing 7 3/4 pounds. Sun 5/15 Tougher drift today with a good morning bite then a pick throughout the rest of the day. Plenty of people returned home with their coolers full of their limit. Steve had his limit to 6 pounds. Young Kim had his limit to 5 1/2 pounds. Kim Sr. as high hook with 10 keepers. Mrs. Kim was our pool winner today with an 8 pounder.
SEA OTTER IV CHARTERS Sat5/14 Al Goldberg and his friends charteredthe boat taking advantage of some fluke action. Bob was high hook with 11 keepers and Al himself won their pool weighing in an 8 1/2 pound fluke. Wed &Thurs 5/4 & 5/5 Went out for an exploratory trip on Wednesday to Block Island. Was not disappointed by the blackfish activity. 4 guys easily nabbed their limit and had 5 fish over 10 pounds. Capt Vinnie nailed a 12 pound 12 ounce tog and Captain Joel hit a soild 12 pounder. On Thursday Brooklyn Lou was out for a private charter and his group were very happy with similiar results. 6 fish over 10 pounds sailed over the rails. Eddie had a 10 3/4 pound tog, Lou a 10 1/4 pounder. Frank Brought in an 11.25 and a 10 pounder. Great day! Captain Joel is very encouraged by the amounts of squid in the waters at the end of this week as well as some good numbers of fluke reported in from the commmercial guys. There is also bluefish and striper activity around. All excellent signs for the weeks ahead!. FYI, Captain Joel will be mixing up the full day fluke trips with some diamond jigging for bass as well whenever he sees good signs for it! Fri 4/29 Opening fluke day - great turnout - disappointing start. Slow bite - Ace Moon went home w/ a tee shirt after bringing the first keeper aboard for the season. Don Birch took the pool with a 4 1/2 pound fluke. We're hoping that this weeks forecasted warmer temperatures will hopefully turn the bite on.
