FISHING REPORT
Week of 9/20
Tues 9/21 & Wed 9/22 Offshore tuna trip Tuna bite was slow but a mix of mahi mahi, yllowfin, albacore and blue sharks were all part of the excusrion. Bill Schulken had his 1st shark bringing up a 200 lb blue. Claus had the largest mahi at 15 pounds and Bob Vigil and Fered kretchmeyer hauled in their 1st tunas with Freds taking the pool at 65 pounds. Wed night 9/22 Pretty good bassing with the pool winner a 33 pounder caught by Brett Balascio. Thurs 9/23 Great mixed bag day! Some real nice sea bass and jumbo scup to 2 1/2 pounds. Diamond jigging yeilded plenty of blue fish and some stripers . Sasquatch won the pool with his 15 pound striped bass. Fri 9/24 Really awesome day! Excellent sea bassing to 4 1/2 pounds and scup to 3 1/2 pounds. Nice quantities. A few nice sized fluke came over the rails and were released. Also a blackfish came over as well and was returned. Diamond jigging was ood with a nice blues and bass mix. A bluefin tuna was also brought over the rails and returned. Hugh Locascio nabbed a striper in the high teens winning the pool. Fri night Decent night with close to 40 keepers coming over the rails. Paul Zelenka had the pool with an 18 pounder. Sat 9/25 1/2 day diamond jigging - lots of action bluefish action! Kevin Daniels snagged a 15 pound striper to win the pool in the morning. The afternoon more of the same with Tom tking the winnings with 14 pound striper. Sat night A 27 pound striped bass caught by Jim Marriott won the pool. SEA OTTER IV Charters Thurs night 9/23 Dennis Melis and his buddies had a terrific night nailing their limit on stripers w/live eels to 29 1/2 pounds. Fri 9/24 Greg Oross and friends had an awesome day - best daytime bassing with uinbelievable action. Live lining scup the guys played catch and release after obtaining their limit. High hook was john with 10 fish. $ fish weighed in the 30 pound range with Greg taking top honors with a 37 pounder. Fri night Centerport Fire Department fellows were out having some night bass fun along with some bluefish action. Birthday boy Chris took home his present of 2 nice keeprs, while Billy was high hook with 4 and Ed Mcguire nailed the pool with a 30 pound striper. Sat 9/25 Anthony Brigandi and buddies headed out for some shark fishing and were not disappointed after catching and releasing a huge 400 pound blue shark. The guys decided to switch to some bassing and quickly nabbed their limit of bass to 30 pounds using live bait. Unbelievably excellent bass fishing! Sat night Glenn Ophoff is back from his honeymoon and headed out with some pals and his new bride Laura for some night striper action. Excellent night with the group nabbing their limit . billy Sr. was high hook with 7 fish and Glenn had the largest weighing in at 27 pounds. Monday 9/13 Bluefish a plenty! Martin won the pool with a 20 pound striper. Tuesday 9/14 Some pollack and ling in the mix at Coxes Ledge today. Ok cod bite with Joe Howard winning the pool with an 18 pound cod. Lots of dogfish unfort. Wed 9/15 Very good porgie action in the morning. Live lining for bass was excellent with most people nabbing their limit. Lots of bluefish ion the mix. Bob Young won teh pool with a 30 pound striper. Wed night. A bit of a slow start but a good bite tuned on late. Close to 30 keepers. Riob Crane was high hook with 5 keepers and had the pool winner at 28 pounds. Thurs 9/16 Mark Griffen took out a big group for the afternoon for some pre-weddding fun. Diamond jigging produced plenty of bluefish action and a few stripers in the mix. Saturday 9/18 Got the morning in for diamond jigging before the storm hit. Plenty of bluefish action getting in the way of stripers. Hank pulled a 20 pound striper out to win the pool. Sunday 9/19 Lots of bluefish for the taking! Also some false albacore were brought in. Kevin Krobatisch won the pool with a striper at 18 pounds. Sea Otter IV Charters Wed 9/15 Jeff Schactuck and buddies live lining porgies for a very decent bass bite. 5 fish between 30 and 35 pounds. Jeff and Ronnie each weighed in a 35 pounder. Thurs 9/16 Mikey Waters and the boys from Engine 37 enjoyed a good bass bite using live porgies for bait. Mikey landed 4 keepers and the guys had stripers to 30 pounds. Fri 9/17 The men of soth Bay Apparrel came out for the day live lining porgies for stripers. Fred Baltruss was high hook with 5 keepers and had bass to 31 pounds. Sat 9/18 Ben Lapp and pals from PA came down for some striper action. Real good bass bite and some bluefish action as well. Some false albacore also came over the rails. Isaac won the poool with a 28 pound striper. But Ben won the "dessert pool" as high hook of porgies - hope it was chocolate cake!
Wed night 9/8 Bill Ciestak chartered Sea otter IV for some outstanding bluefish action. Trolling umbrellas the fishing was very good. Groom to be Bill Jr. had their pool with a 15 pound bluefish. Sat night 9/11 Ken Braun was out with some pals for a night charter on Sea Otter IV. Slack tide in the middle of the night and an abundance of bluefish made for a tough bass bite. John Betty had a 30 pound striper. Fri 9/10 Sea Otter IV half day charter for bass. Trolling live bait 5 fish over 30 pounds. Matt nabbed a 38 pounder and John had a 42 pounder. Sea Otter V - Sat night 9/11 - Plenty of bluefish but a slack tide. John Betty won the pool with a 30 pound striper. Sun 9/12 Lots of blues and porgies. Live lining porgies for striper had high hook of 10 keepers. Rick Berkovits won the pool with a 28 pounder. Sun night 8/29 Good numbers of fish tonite with over 50 fish swung over the rails. The pool winner was captured by Ken Olsen at 18 pounds. Mon 8/30 the full day trip saw some good sea bass, porgie and fluke activity. Tony Vigil had a great day winning the poool with a 7 1/2 pound fluke and he also nabbed a 6 pound sea bass! Mon night Decent night with Ivan goldart taking the pool winnings with his striper at 30 pounds. Erin was high hook with 4 keepers. Tues 8/31 Fluke pool winner was Mickey Morgan with a 5 pounder. wed 9/1 Wed night Good night over 40 keepers. Joe was high hook with 9 keepers and Bill Ikin had 6. Rocky Broullon fron the BLouie in West palm beach, won the pool with a 28 pound striper. Thurs 9/2 Fair day with porgises and sea bass in the mix. Fluking was slow with the pool winner a 5 pounder nabbed by John Eisenhut. Friday 9/3 Decent day with some nice sized porgies and sea bass coming over the rails from Midway. Over 80 sea bass!A 7 1/2 pound fluke won the pool caught by Julio Castro. Fri Night Decent night. Over 28 keepers swung over the rails. Richard Areaw won the pool with a 29 pound striper. Sat 9/4 Slow fluke actio in the morning but James wojicek managed to pull out a 4 pounder to win the pool. Sat night Slow bite with Kathy Kronuch taking pool winnings with her 24 pounder. Sun 9/5 Mixed day with Ace Moon winning the fluke pool with an 8 pounder. Sunday night- Tough bite. Some bluefish. Billy Schulken was the pool winner with a 21 poundf striper. Monday - 9/6Fluke season went out with a bang! Hiroki Kobayeashi nailed a 12 pound doormat, easily taking the pool earnings. Nice sea bass action as well to 4 pounds. SEA OTTER IV CHARTERS Wed 9/1 Steve Rogers and family were out pounding away at some porgie action for the afternoon. Plenty of action with fish to 2 1/2 pounds. FRI 9/3 Joanne Marglaris had the family out for some afternoon fishing action. Awesome porgy fishing. Danielle was high hook with 35. Some blue fish action also with Drew nailing a triple header. Sat 9/4 Tim Ferron came out with his buddies for some offshore action. Nabbed some false albacore while trolling but switched into sharking. No disappointment there - A 20 ft Great White put in an appearance, definately shaking things up. He went away and they nabbed 4 blue sharks to 250 lbs. Jaws came back again patrolling around. When he disappeared again they nabbed 3 more blues to 300 lbs. What an awesome sighting!!! Sun - cnclled offshore charter due to seas. Mon 9/6 Porgies and bluefish charter with Carla nailing a quadruple bluefish header and Mercedes hitting 3 double header porgies. Great action.
