FISHING REPORT
Sun night 8/22
Fairly decent night with a pick of over 35 keepers over the rails. The pool winner was Larry Habonak with his striper at 32pounds. Mon 8/23 Tough fishing but Steve Pennachio nailed a 9 1/4 pound fluke. Cleve had a nice 6 pounder. Mon Night8/23 Tough night. The pool winner was Andre Tkacz with a 20 pound striper. Tues 8/24 The morning pool winner was Eric Naftell who had a 3 pound fluke. The afternoon winnings were taken home by 9 year old Curtis Dalton who weighed in a 4 pound fluke. Wed 8/25 The Morning winner was Tom Lewandowski who nabbed a 5.5 poun fluke. Some sea bass and porgies have been mixed in this week. The afternoon bite was yielded a 3 pouund pool winner taken by Bob Russo. Wed night Montauk's own, Kathy Kronuch nailed a 38 and a 42 pound striper. Two other fish weighed in over 30 pounds. Thursday 8/26 Morning bite was ok with Jim Mayberry winning the pool with a 6 1/2 pound fluke. the afternoon saw some more quality fish come in with fluke to 7 pounds. There were also some sea bass swung over the rails. Bill Ikin won the pool with a 6 pound fluke. Friday 8/27 Good pick of fluke throughout the day from Midway area. Bill Ikin won the pool again with an 8 pound fluke. 5 other fluke weighed over 6 pounds. Fri night Tough night - wind against the tide and phosphorous in the water. Some bluefish and some keeper bass. Pool was won by Jimmy Alesi at 12 pounds. Sat 8/28 Slow fluking on the south side with too fast a drift. Mr. Kim won the pool in the morning with a 5 pounder. Sat nite - Improvement over last night with at least 22 keepers over the rails. Lionel Diaz won the pool with an 18 1/2 pounder. Sunday 8/29 Doormat sunday - great fluking improvement. Hearst Mills weighed in an 11.2 pounder, Mrs Park nailed a 10.4 pounder and Julio Castro nabbed a 9.75 pounder. Hearst also had a 3.8 pound sea bass. good mixed day. Sea Otter IV charters - Fri 8/27 Paul Ryan and family chartered the boat Fri nite with Dave winning their pool with a 30 pound striper. Sat 8/28 Charles Schaefer and pals were aboard for some bottom fishing. They had some good fluke action with Brendan Reilly nabbing a 7 1/2 pounder. They had at least 10 fish over 5 pounds. Nice improvement on the fluke. Sun 8/29 Sayville Fire Department was out for a full day of striper action and porgie fishing. John nailed the pool with a 30 pounder. good action. Sunday night 8/15 Great night with the boat limiting out. 6 fish weighing over 30 pounds came over the rails. Pete from the Celtic Quest was on board and he nailed a 42 and a 45 pounder. Jackie had a 36 1/2 pounder. Erin O'Hare reeled in a 32 pounder. High hook was Pete and Bob McGregor with 8 fish a piece (retained only their limit). Monday - full day 8/16 Great fluke fishing day with the boat taking its limit. Nice quality from the South side. Mr. Ari had the pool winner at 7 pounds. Headed to Midway where we had some nice jumbo porgies and a bunch of sea bass in the mix. Monday night 8/16 Decent night with over 40 keepers swung over the rails. Gary young won the pool with a 32 poun striper. Tuesday 8/17 Great moring down the south side with the boat nabbing its fluke limit. Gigi went home with the pool winnings with her 5 pounder. the afternoon was good as well with Jim Smithseth winning the pool with a nice 8 1/2 pounder. Wednesday 8/18 Decent fluking once again on the south side. Frank Bottiglieri won the pool with a beauty at 9 pounds. the afternoon was a bit slower but still ok with Don Parks pulling in a 4 pounder to win the pool. Wednesday 8/19 Great night with some very nice fish boarded. Matt Donahue was high hook with 8 fish (keeping his limit). Paul Kramer nailed a 34 pounder and his buddy Jim had a 31 pounder. It was young John Ryan's night though. 8 years old and he managed to bring in a 44 pound striper to win the pool! Thursday 8/20 A bit slower bite in the afternoon down the South side but Paul Fisse managed a 5 pound fluke pool winner. Friday8/21 Great day down the south side a pair of 8.4 pound fluke tied for the pool caught by Mike Pehrsson and Bill Wiebalck. Headed to Midway - good sea bass and porgie action. Fri night A bit slow to start but fishing picked up towards the end of the night. Don Mitchell won the pool with a 30 pound striper. Sat 8/22 Down the south side in the morning where Mr. Kim picked a 5 pound pool winner. Sun 8/23 A slower bite today but Bob Hanley won the fluke pool with his 6 pounder. Some sea bass in the mix as well. Fri
Sea Otter IV charters: Wed8/18 The Rusty Hook Fishing Club was out for a mixed bag day. Monte nabbed the pool striper at 32 pounds caught while live lining porgies. Richie nabbed a 7 1/2 pound fluke. Thurs 8/19 Frank Marsigliano took the family out for a 1/2 day trip. the kids had a blast reeling in porgies, sea bass and bluefish. Kevin weighed in a nice 3 1/2 pound porgie. Fri 8/20Bob Lieberberg took his family out for a 1/2 day trip. The kids got sore arms porgy and sea bass fishing. Fred, was out on his first ever fishing trip (47 y/o) and it doesn't seem like it will be his last as he was having as much fun as the kids! James had a 3 1/2 pound sea bass. Sat 8/21 Rick Holowchak and pals were out and after catching their striper limit played catch and realease the rest of the day. Live lining porgies, the guys had fish to 36 pounds with Rob nabbing the 36 pounder. Sun 8/22 John monaco and friends were out for the day live lining for stripers. Terrific Day with 6 fish over 30 pounds. Had their limit and Chris hauled in a beauty at 43 pounds! Week of 8/8 Sun night 8/8 A bit slower action for stripers. High hook was Scott with 4 keepers. Al Difangro won the pool with a 28 pounder. Mon 8/9 Coxes Ledge Another good trip with steady action. Some nice cod landed and an average of 3 keepers per man. There were some pollack in the mix and also some dogfish to deal with. Rich Finucane won the pool with a 26 1/2 pound cod. Mon night 8/9 Great night with the boat limiting out. 7 fish weighing over 30 pounds were swung over the rails. Jimmy Bozza nailed the pool with a 40 1/2 pounder. Danny Pedroza had a 33 pounder. Scott Dudley had his personal best night with a 35 pounder and a 36 pounder. Tues 8/10 Fluking was a bit slower todaywith a 3 pound pool winner in the morning and Patricia Amendalofi winning the afternoon with a 3 1/2 pounder. Wed 8/11 The morning fluke trip had us towards the south side with Maggie Vecchione winning the pool with a 2 1/2 pound fluke. In the afternoon it was mr. kay who nabbed the pool with a fluke weighing 5 1/2 pounds. Wednesday nights bass trip in the rips had Frank Cuccio with the pool at 27 pounds. Thurs 8/12 The morning bite down the south side was good with Matthew Kim winning the pool with a 9 pound fluke. The afternoon produced a good number of keepers with the incoming tide. Phil Maresca won the pool with a 7 pounder. Saturday 8/14 John Kang had a 5 lb fluke to win the pool. The weather did not deter the bass fisherman Saturday night. Decent night with over 27 keepers. High hook was 8 fish. Kathy Kronuch won the pool with a 30 pounder. Charters- Tues 8/10 Artie Ruppert was back with his family for some night bass action with Captain Joel. Great night with Craig Ruppert hauling in a massive 52 pounder! His friend Dave from Austin Texas had a 35 pounder. Fri 8/13 Dave Aboudi was back for a charter live lining porgies to land a mix of stripers to the mid twenty pound range. They brought in some nice jumbo porgies to 3 pounds. Sat 8/14 The Locust Valley Fire Department had a mixed bag charter out with highlights of Lucy Dembrowski and a 6 1/2 pound fluke, Sean Conny with a 4 1/2 pound sea bass, Mike weighed in a 2 1/2 pound porgy and Yvonne diamond jigged blue fish to 8 pounds. Sun night 8/1 Awesome night. We limited with 7 fish over 30 pounds. Rob Vonkampen weighed in a 36 1/2 pounder. Paul had a 31 pounder. Gary Nielson - 35 pounds, Billy Goodger 35 pounds, Walter Limrick 34 1/2 pounds, Mozer 34 pounds and Joe 30 pounds. Mon 8/2 Coxes Ledge Trip Well worth the trip with some fairly steady action throughout the day amidst the fog. Lots of shorts thrown back over. Good numbers of cod and pollack sailing over the rails. Arnold Preuss earned some bragging rights with his 30 pound cod and a 26 pound cod. He also brought in a 15 pound pollack. Mon night 8/2 Good night again! 6 fish over 30 pounds were landed - over 50 keepers total. Rose Canale brought in 5 keepers, two of which weighed 34 and 35 pounds. Chris barrett nailed a 36 pounder and a 32 pounder. Pete Berry won the pool with a 41 pound striped bass. Wed night 8/4 Once the tide came in there was a real good bass bite. High hook was 7 keepers. The pool honors went to Kathy Kronuck who weighed in a 32 pounder. Fri 8/6 Some decent diamond jigging today with a mix of blues and bass. Fluking was a bit slower but there was good amounts of scup and sea bass coming over the rails. Joe Kielczynski won the fluke pool with a 7 1/2 pounder Sat 8/7 A bit slow for fluke in the morning run. Got into some nice sea bass at Midway. The pool was won by Eric Rubenstein with his 7 lb fluke. Hit the rips in the afternoon, a slow bite but Mr. Yun won the pool with a 4 pounder. Sat night 8/7 Close to 40 keeprs over the rails tonite. The pool was won by Bill Pulis, out celebrating his final days of bachelorhood. He reeled in a 37 pounder. Sun 8/8 Gurneys is coming alive with fluke again. We had our limit and the pool was a 7 pounder reeled in by Val Perasimchuk from the Ukraine. Had some nice sea bass in the mix. Good action diamond jigging blues also. Sea Otter IV Charters Mon 8/2 Ed Loberman took his daughter and grandkids out for a action packed afternoon of diamond jigging blue fish. The kids had a terrific time bringing in a bunch of porgies and sea bass as well. Sat 8/7 Great day for Mark Grieves and buddies as they sailed a mixed bag trip. They had their limit on fluke and got into some nice sea bass and porgies. Bruce reeled in a 5 1/2 lb sea bass. They also had fun doing battle with a ton of bluefish and short striped bass. Sat night 8/7 Adam Hunter and friends went out with Captain Joel for some livee eeling action for stripers. Good night with adam reeling in his first keeper striper and his buddy Brian winning their pool with a 32 pounder. Sun 8/8 Mike McGuigan and family chartered the boat for a mixed bag day and capt. Joel did not disappoint. Betsy "soon to be" McGuigan nailed a 31 pound bass. They also had a 28 pounder in the mix. A nice number of blue fish and porgies came over the rails as well as some nice sea bass. Monday 7/26 Good fishing with most of the boat getting their fluke limit. John Keng won the pool with a 6 1/2 pound fluke. Don "the regular" brought a pair of 6 pounders over the rail Wednesday 7/28 The afternoon pool was won with a 4 pound fluke caught by Mr. kim. Wednesday night 7/28 Good night with Mike Finn bringing in a 35 pound striper to win the pool. High hook was 12 year old John Janaskie from Las Vegas who reeled in 4 keepers. Thursday 7/29 Roger Boyle nabbed a 4 pound fluke to win the pool. His other highlight was an 18 pound striper! Friday 7/30 Full day had a good pick of sea bass in the morning to 6 pounds. Good action at Midway and towards Block. The pool was won by James Chang with a 7 1/2 pound fluke. Friday night 7/30 Lots of blue fish activity and dog fish around. Wind against the tide. Bill Iken Jr. reeled in his largest bass to date a solid 44 pounder earning him the pool and bragging rights. Saturday 7/31 The morning pool fish weighed 5 pounds. The afternoon had us battling wind against the tide so it was a late pick with the pool fish at 4 pounds. Saturday night 7/31 Good night with high hook Bob Vigil reeling in 5 keepers. We were a handful of fish shy of limiting out. Pete Froehlich won the pool with a 28 pounder. Sunday 8/1 Good mixed bag day. Some nice sea bass came over the rails. Decent pick of fluke with the boat nabbing its limit. A few striped bass and blue fish came in as well as some bigger porgies. Mr. Hahn won the pool with a 4 pound fluke. Sea Otter IV Charters Wed 7/28 Mike Waters and the boys from Massapequa Fire dept. did some chunking for bass aith Pat nabbing a nice 33 pounder. The boys had their limit on fluke. Fri 7/30 Mike Connelly chartered for a mixed bag fishing day. By chunking, Denny nailed a 30 pound striper. There were plenty of porgies up to 4 /14 pounds coming over the rails. In the mix of fluke there were some nice sea bass as well. Saturday 7/31 Dave Aboudi and his buddies were out for a mixed bag full day. Whitey nnailed a 28 pound stripere while chunking. They had their limit on fluke and had a mix of blue fish and porgies for the day. Sat night 7/31 Rick G. chartered the boat for some night bass action with live eels and limited out for 14 passengers. Rick won the pool with a 41 pounder.
