FISHING REPORT

Week of 10/20
Certainly not the best of weather for the first 1/2 of the week. Thankfully there was an improvement towards the end.

Thursday's blackfish trip still felt the effect of the weather with conditions giving us some rough seas and slow fishing. Blackfish came over the rails up to 4 1/2 pounds.

Friday day Paul Palazoo and his friends headed out for a full day mixed bag charter.
Trolling parachutes in the morning the guys had their limit on stripers and plenty of blues. The afternoon they landed some jumbo porgies and some good numbers of sea bass.

Friday night saw some decent bass fishing with the boat limiting out. The pool fish was a 27 pounder brought in by Adam Borisuk.

Saturday morning had some excellent diamond jigging with plenty of bluefish hitting the decks and over 26 keeper stripers. The pool was taken by Rob Biliski and his 18 pound striper.

Saturday afternoon once again saw a lot of blues hittingthe decks up to 16 pounds. Jackson Barbra limited out on stripers and included the pool winner at 18 pounds.

Saturday night the bassing got off to a slow start but the momentum kicked in towars the end of the night with Ed Garry taking home the pool winnings along with his 35 pounder.

Sunday's full day blackfish trip was pretty good as we fished Fishers Island and theRace light with over 2/3rds of the boat taking its limit with fish up to 6 1/2 pounds. Rich Maggio had 13 keepers and Steve Polpsovsky nailed 12 - keeping only their limit.

Week of 10/13
Monday was a true mixed bag where anglers diamond jigged stripers, a whole lot of blues. They moved on to catch many porgies, sea bass and a few fluke. Highlights incle 10 y/o Billy Johanson who diamond jigged two keeper stripers on his own. Liz P. and Al shared the pool with a pair of 4 1/2 pound fluke.

Tuesday, Denise Morrisey and her friends were out tuna fishing on their charter with Captain Joel and she brought in her first ever tuna, a nice bluefin at 50 lbs. Her friend Nora nabbed a 53 pounder.


Friday again was a nice mixed bag day with a lot of jumbo porgies being taken as well as numerous blue fish and stripers. Peter from Boston brought a good sized sea bass at 4 3/4 pounds over the rails.

Friday night bassing had Dave Aboude nail the pool with a 26 pounder and Saturday night, a bit on the slow side but Anthony Barrest took first with a 21 pounder.

Saturday more mixed bag fishing with some grest quality sea bass coming over the rails. Rich brought in a nice 5 3/4 pounder and his pal Bob also had a 5 3/4 pounder but won the pool with a solid 6 /14 pound sea bass. Plenty of jumbo porgies around as well as blue fish and stripers in the mix.

Sundaywas a good diamond jigging day with plenty of blue fish hitting the decks. Joe diamond jigged a nice 24 pounder.

Week of 10/5
Sunday night bass fishing was excellent in the rips with the boat limiting out early. High hook was Alberto with 7 keepers! Paul Meyers took the pool with a nice 39 1/2 pounder.

Mondays full day was a true mixed bag. We diamond jigged early on and nabbed some nice quantities of bluefish and stripers. In the afternoon we landed alot of scup and seabass up to 5 1/2 pounds. On the fluke front Gus Tsavaris nailed an 8 1/4 pounder to take the pool honors.

A lot of striper action was had by Mike Waters and the boys from the NYC Fire Dept at the beginning of the week.

Continued the bottom fishing on Tuesday where Joe Kucerinski won the pool with a 7 1/2 pound fluke.

Great diamond jigging action on Wednesday. A lot of bluefish came over along with some nice sized stripers. Jersey Bob nailed a doormat fluke at 10 lbs to give us a nice highlight to the bottom fishing. Plenty of sea bass and porgie action.

Wednesday night nice activity back at the rips with some fast action right off the bat. Over 38 keepers came aboard that night and the pool winner was Angelo D'Angelo with a 31 pounder.

Thursday solid diamond jigging action with Mike Price landing 4 keepr stripers and plenty of bluefish. Don Mitchell brought in a 5 1/2 pound fluke in the afternoon amongst the porgie and sea bass.

Friday night a bit slopy but some nice action. Bill Iken nabbed the pool with a 29 pounder and brought 3 other keepers over the rails.

Friday Bill "Fishhead" Iken was back and still on a roll diamond jigging 7 keeper stripers. Plenty of blues and stripers to be had. Did some porgie fishing and fluking in the afternoon. Porgies are abundunt and Stewve Dinapoli brought in a 4 1/2 pound fluke. A nice surprise were some southern species amberjack that came over the rails as well.

Saturday we diamond jigged and customers had their limit on stripers. The highlight was Mr. La and his 32 pounder! Some nice sea bass action and plenty of porgies around.

Unfort. due to the nasty winds and sea on Sat nite, in the interest of customer safety we cancelled both our night boats.

Week of 9/29
Monday's combo took us to the south side where Larry Rock brought in a beautiful 12 pound doormat fluke. Another highlight was John Frohlich's 4 pound sea bass.

Tuesday we fluked on the south side for another double digit day. Ricky Roof nabbed a 12.5 pound fluke! A good fluking day with half the boat going home with their limit. We also had a nice run of sea bass to 3 pounds.

Tuesday night Jimmy Gleissner was out fishing with his buddies for stripers. Capt Joel had them in the rips and Jimmy hauled in a solid 43 1/2 pound cow.

Wednesday we headed out for some fluking action which was a bit slow. High hook was 5 keepers and the pool fish was Bob Calandro with a 4 pounder. Bob also nailed a 30 pound striper when we switched over to diamond jigging. Plenty of bluefish action.

Wednesday night Lewis from Brooklyn took top honors with a 37 pound striped bass while we eeled in the rips. Devin Parrish from Houston caught his first , a nice 24 pounder.

Thursday lots of blues and false albacore as we diamond jigged at the Elbow and Pollack rip.

Friday was a stellar day. Diamond jigging brought us a mess (quite literally) of bluefish as well as some nice stripers. Dan from Brookly had his limit on stripers. We also had a real strong showing for sea bass. The highlight of the day (week) was definately the 16 lb 10 oz doormat of a fluke that Jay Choi hauled over the rails. He earned his place in the Sea Otter history books by nringing us our 3rd fish over 15 lbs in 4 years. He also won a free pass for the rest of the season.

Friday night was a productive night at Great Eastern with over 25 keepers coming aboard. The pool was tied at 28 pounds each for Andy Arkin and Walt Mazimowitz.

The 562 fishing club charter were out for the day on Saturday and in spite of tough conditions managed to bring in a lot of porgies and some nice sized sea bass. Diamond jigging produced a lot of actionwas great for stripers and blues.

Saturday night we fished the elbow where the bluefish were too abundunt. Fishing was tough due to the strong west wind but Mike Sita managed to win the pool with a 30 lb striper.

Sunday day was a bit slow at diamond jigging but we made up for it with some solid porgie action with some nice sea bass thrown in the mix. Craig Gersbeck nabbed a 5 lb fluke while we were on the South side.
