FISHING REPORT
Week of 8/18
Sunday afternoon we took to the South side where Fluking had some great quality results. Debbie Lutsen nabbed a 7 3/4 pounder, Grover Howell landed a 7 1/4 pounder and the pool went to John Martin with a 9 pounder! Mondays all day trip stayed consistent on the fluke front from the South side. Never one to miss out on the action, Capt. Joel nailed an 8 1/2 pounder and then went on to reel in a 10 1/2 pounder. Dieter was high hook with 6 keepers and the pool was tied fro first when both Rob Stump and Steve Lerox reeled in 7 1/2 pounders. Tuesday the action kept up when 8 out of 11 fares limited out. Phil Rabito was the show-off for the day as he reeled in first a 9.1 pounder and then a 9.6 pounder! Wednesday - can you say doormat? The South side produced with Joe Johnson reeling in a 10 1/4 pounder, Mr. Lee hauled a 10 1/2 pounder in, Paul Ryan netted a 11.5 pounder and Sal Filancia brought 7 keepers over the rails including the hands down pool winner at 14.9 pounds! Kim Lee was high hook with 15 keepers. Looks like the bass fishing has returned! Wednesday night we were at the East Spot and the North Rips where Paul Ryan nabbed a big 41 pounder. Bob Zlokovitz turned things up with his 31 pounder and then his pool winning slammer at 45 pounds!! Thursday morning had some good quality fishing coming in from the South side. Frank readinger from Ridgewood, NJ landed the pool winner with his 7 1/4 pounder. Thursday nights special Full Moon Striper trip did not disappoint. A bit breezy but the action was hot at the East spot and North rips again. 4 fish came over the rails over 30 pounds. Tom Pennino reeled in 6 keepers! One of which was at 32 pounds and another at 36 pounds! Michelle Hassel hooked 3 keepers and even Capt Joel managed 4 keepers including a 31 pounder. Dave Aboude was our winner with 5 keeprs and his pool prize at 38 pounds! Friday's full day took us over to the South side where the fluke action picked up in the afternoon. High hook was Cliff from West Point who reeled in 12 keepers, 3 of which were over 5 1/2 pounds. Jim Matteucci Sr. had 9 keepers as did Carlos. Friday night Jim Hickey chartered the boat for some bass fishing. Conditions were rough at the North rips but the guys managed to pull a 31 pounder and a 22 pounder over the rails. Saturday AM the Stirling Harbor Yacht Club chartered the boat for some fluke action ot the South side. Mary T. took the pool honors with a 7 1/4 lb fluke. Saturday afternoon the gang from Chem Connect in NYC chartered the boat for blues. Pretty good action with fish up to 7 lbs coming over the rails. Jenna had a solid 7 pounder. Saturday night amidst some tough conditions we had good results at the Rips and East spot. Lily Hou had her limit including a 21.5 pounder. Gregory "Sabrett" had a 22.9 pounder and Kathy Kronuck managed 3 keepers (she kept only her limit) including a 34.4 pounder! Sunday's full day showed a bit of concern due to a poor drift but that did not deter the fluke! Half the boat limited out (24 fares). Great quality fish came over the rails. Eddie Anderson had an 8.1 pounder, Kim reeled in a 9.1 and Capt. Joel brought a 9.6 pounder over the rails. Sal Amato had a 9 1/2 pounder to win the pool. And, at the final horn, Bernie Renyolds brought a 7.9 pounder obver the rails with his Super ultra-light. week of 8/11 Sunday afternoon fluke fishing on the South side was quite memorabloe for Joe hruska. He nabbed 7 keeprs including his biggest fluke in over 25 years fishing - an 8 pounder - pool winner! Sunday nights bass fishing at the East spot had Dave Aboude and Tom Penino hauling in 4 keepers a piece and Ron Brown nabbing 4 as well including a 30 pound pool winner. (Anglers kept only their limit). Monday the Rusty Hook Fishing Club chartered the boat for some great fluke fishing at the South Side. Bill Kessinger was high hook with 810 keepers up to 7 pounds. John Petretti nabbed an 8 pounder and Joe Maltese took the top honors with his fluke at 9.3 pounds. Our first Full day Tuesday produced strong results fluking the South side. Steve Powers and Ben from NJ shared the high hook honors with 11 keepers a piece. Joel, Bob and jan had 9 keepers each and Man S. Kin had 6 keepers including the pool winner at 9.1 pounds and a respctable 8.2 pounder. Wednesday had some good fishing all around. Diamong jiggingfor two drifts resulted in a good mix of blues coming aboard while Ralphie, Walter and Capt. Joel each jigged a keeper bass. Fluke fishing had great action with at one point two fishermen battling it out with up to 50 fish (including) shorts flying over the rails between them in one drift! Capt. Joel had 9 keepers, Ralphie had 8 keepers as did Steve Powers. Mike Janickey had 6 keepers including his biggest fluke to date at 8.1 pounds. Benny Nacinovich had 6 keepers including the pool at 8.6 pounds. Wednesday nights bass trip at the East Spot proved fair for some with Dieter and Kathy Kronuch hauling 4 keepers a piece over the rails. Kathy nabbed the pool with a 32 pounder. Thursday morning fluke fishing was a bit slow with not much drift. Birthday boy Tony Catalfamo from Locust Valley took the pool honors with a 5 1/2 pounder. The afternoon the fishing improved but Tony nabbed thepool again this time with a 6 pounder. Friday's all day trip had some good fluking action on the South side. Eddie and Brooklyn Lou each limited out with Lou landing a nice 9 1/2 pounder. Kang eneded up with the pool winner at 9 3/4 pounds amongst his 8 keepers. Mr. Moon had 8 keepers as well including an 8 3/4 pounder. 13 anglers limited out on Friday including first time fisherwoman wendy who had her limit by 12 noon! As always, angl;ers only kept their limit. Saturday the Locust Valley Fire deoartment chartered the boat for the day for some fluke action on the South side. April connors was high hook with 8 keepers including the pool winner at 8 1/2 pounds. Ed McCoy also had 8 keepers and Jeff Baker finished the day out with a beauty at 8 1/4 pounds. Saturday nights bass trip had some tough fishing but Rob Stump from Staten Island managed to take the pool with a 16 pounder. Sunday morning, our last sunday with 1/2 day trips, we took to the South Side where Teddy had 6 keepers with 3 fish between 4 and 5 pounds. James Harris took the pool with a 7.1 pounder. Week of 8/4 Sunday night's bass trip took us to the East spot where 10 y/o Chris Cutting nabbed his first ever keeper bass on Capt. Neils custom rod. Mike nabbed 3 keepers as well. But Capt. Joel got in on the action once again to show them how its done resulting in a 36 pounder and a 30 pounder! Show off! Monday's full day trip for fluke took us over to the South side where Jason was high hook with 11 keepers! Mike Hagens reeled in 6 keepers and the pool winner at 8.9 pounds. Tuesday we were back at the South side where Yoon took 7 keepers and Han had 5 including the pool winner at 6 pounds. Wednesday we headed off Gurneys where the action was hot. The first person head limited out by 10:45. Capt. Joel and Mr. Lee tied for high hook with 14 keepers each! (they returned 7 fish each back to the waters). For 20 fares half the boat limited out. The quality of fish was excellent. Paul Ryan had a 6 1/2 pounder, Mr. Lee #1 managed 3 fish over 5 pounds, Mr. Lee #2 had 4 fish over 4 1/2 pounds and Geaorge Natal had 9 keepers including the pool at 7 1/4 pounds. Wednesday nights striper trip took us to the East Spot and then towards the Lighthouse. The boat limited out for 16 fares. Highlights were Ralph Tserni's 36 1/2 poiund Striper and the pool winning 42 1/2 pounder hauled over the rails by Kathy Kronuck. Thursday we headed to the South side where a 3-way tie ensued for pool winning rights amongst the guys from Bridgeport. Josh, Tony and Ron each landed a 5 1/2 pounder. Thursday afternoon the Peter J. Solomon charter mixed it up with fluke and sea bass. Steve reeled in a respectable 3 1/2 pound sea bass. Thursday nights New Moon bass trip did not disappoint. Heading to the East Spot Tom Penino landed 10 keepers! Charles Bordsen hauled a beauty of a pool winner in at 43 1/2 pounds! Brad Riese took 2nd with a 35 pounder. Friday's all day trip concentrated on the South side for fluke. Victor Ghini managed to limit out for his first time. Al was high hook with 10 keepers with 3 fish close to 6 pounds. Pete Indycki had 4 keepers including the pool at 7 1/4 pounds. Saturday morning good quality fish were around on the Soutth side. Jersey Bob had 4 keepers but the star for the morning was 5 year old cutie Baylee Kilfoil who reeled in a 7 pounder! Saturday afternoon, Tom and Chris each landed 4 keepers as did Mtr. Lee who also had the pool fish at 5 1/2 pounds. Saturday nights bass trip had us at the East Spot where Kathy Kronuck had 3 keepers, Charlie Bordsen had 3 keepers and Charles Granick won his first pool in 37 years with a 25 pound bass!. It was a good night with the boat 5 keepers away from limiting out for 20 fares. Sunday morning we took to the South side and John Edelman nabbed his first fluke, a pool winner at 9 pounds!
